Aussie psych-punks Tropical Fuck Storm have shared another taste of their upcoming second album Braindrops, releasing new single ‘Who’s My Eugene?’ today.
The band, which formed back in 2017, includes members of several much-loved Australian acts; Gareth Liddiard and Fiona Kitschin of The Drones, Lauren Hammel of High Tension, and Erica Dunn of Mod Con, Harmony and Palm Springs.
It’s the third new track we’ve heard from the follow-up to last year’s excellent A Laughing Death in Meatspace. Earlier this year the band dropped the singles ‘Paradise’ along with ‘The Planet of Straw Men’ (the B-side to which included an excellent cover of Missy Elliott’s ‘Can’t Stop’.)
They’ve also released a music video for ‘Who’s My Eugene?’ shot by the band’s Lauren Hammel, along with Helena Holmes.
“I had a dream that I was served Brian Wilson’s face at a restaurant and it tasted good and I woke thinking that I had to write about the doomed facade of the American dream cos the famous beach boy couldn’t swim and Dennis drowned,” says the band’s Erica Dunn about the track.
“But that idea has been so over cooked by acid casualty hippies that I decided to write about my fear of falling in love with anybody because of the anxiety that they could either help me express myself or keep me locked in psychological torment a la Eugene Landry and Brian.”
