Following his untimely death due as a result of complications stemming from his diabetes, Phife Dawg‘s track Nutshell has just been officially released.
The A Tribe Called Quest member had been working on a solo album Give Thanks at the time of his unfortunate passing, and we’ve now heard the premiere track from the record.
Nutshell features production by J Dilla, and upon its release his manager Dion Liverpool said in a statement: “The single displays Phife’s legendary wordplay as he describes himself, in a nutshell, so to speak.”
The official video for the track has also been unveiled today, during at an event at Harlem’s Apollo Theatre called “The Celebration of Phife”. The clip also includes tributes from Phife Dawg’s peers on his enduring legacy.
Additionally, 50% of the proceeds from the song’s sale will go to the American Diabetes Association and the National Kidney Foundation.
