Watch Chet Faker Play New Song ‘A Place Of Comfort’ Live

Melbourne muso Chet Faker (real name Nick Murphy) has used his current Australian tour to perform an unreleased song reportedly called A Place Of Comfort, and footage of the soulful new track has surfaced online.

Murphy performed A Place Of Comfort in Melbourne on 30th October, at Brisbane’s Riverstage on Halloween, and again at his live-streamed second Sydney Opera House show last night. Footage of the track’s Sydney performance can be viewed in full, below.

AAA Backstage says Murphy told his Brisbane Halloween crowd that A Place Of Comfort was written about the last year, which has been a whirlwind 12 months for the muso.

The song (below) is driven by some slow-moving piano chords, and gets uber-reflective with lyrics like this one: “All these faces I’ve performed with / To tell you the truth / I always wondered if you would hide from me too.”

According to Melbourne photographer Giulio Catena, Murphy told his Melbourne audience that A Place Of Comfort probably won’t be released, but fans are already frothing over the heartfelt new number:

Murphy’s highly anticipated follow-up to his 2014 debut full-length Built On Glass is said to be — in his words — “heavily performance-based”.

Rumours of potential album collabs with the likes of producer Todd Terje and Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s Ruban Nielson were floating around earlier this year, but Murphy set those to bed in October.
