Death Cab For Cutie have joined the slew of other acts paying tribute to the late, great Chris Cornell by covering one of his iconic songs.
During a benefit show they were throwing for US organisation Planned Parenthood, the group honoured the legendary singer by trying their hand at a live rendition of Soundgarden’s sombre classic ‘Fell On Black Days’.
Before launching into the tune, DCFC frontman Ben Gibbard reflected on Cornell’s tragic passing, calling his talent “unbelievable” and describing him as “a fucking insane singer”.
It follows his moving eulogy shortly after Cornell’s passing, in which Gibbard referred to him as “by far the most sophisticated lyricist of his Seattle contemporaries”.
“I have been inspired by the richness and depth of his lyrics since I was a teenager and would argue he never got the credit he deserved for them,” he continued. “We have lost an all-time great.”
