Sydney indie outfit Gang Of Youths have kicked off our Friday mornings with a hit of LCD Soundsystem, stopping by triple j studios to perform a cover of the New York outfit’s much loved track All My Friends for Like A Version.
Gang Of Youths injected a healthy dose of rock into the 2007 dance-punk hit, layering the song with multiple guitars and heavier percussion, ensuring listeners across the country spent a few minutes this morning rocking out in their cars.
While in the studio, the boys also recruited Fantastic Wreck/Fantastic Greg singer Montaigne to help with a rendition of their own track Benevolence Riots. Although the single was only released late last year, the band said it won’t actually feature on their forthcoming debut album The Positions, set for release in April.
Sandwiched between their original and their cover, the Sydney outfit also played a short snipped of a Shania Twain hit, all to help raise cash for the ABC and Red Cross appeal to help those affected by cyclones in Vanuatu.
If you take a look at the Gang of Youths Facebook page, it’s lucky the boys made it in to the studio at all, as guitarist Joji Malani spent time last night stuck behind a security door, having to call in police to rescue him.
Obviously someone in the band filmed the scene, which you can marvel at after you’ve watched the Like A Version below.
The Positions is set for release this April and Gang of Youths have ensured a tour will be forthcoming.
