Kendrick Lamar has opened the 2018 Grammy Awards with a fiery performance at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
Opening the show with some help from U2 and comedian Dave Chappelle, Lamar rapped to his song ‘XXX.’ in front of a display of American flags, surrounded by soldiers marching in place.
The words “This Is A Satire By Kendrick Lamar” appeared on screens before U2’s Bono and The Edge walked onto the stage, Lamar going on to perform a section of ‘DNA.’ before Chappelle told viewers, “The only thing more frightening than watching a black man be honest in America is being an honest black man in America.”
Kendrick then returned to the stage to perform verses from Rich The Kid’s ‘New Freezer’ and Jay Rock’s ‘King’s Dead’. Watch below.
Kendrick is up for seven awards at this year’s Grammys, and has already won awards for Best Rap/Sung Performance, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and Best Music Video at the time of writing.
Lamar also took out triple j‘s Hottest 100 over the weekend, which some people haven’t been too happy about.
