It’s been a little while since the queen of covers herself, Miley Cyrus, has offered a take on yet another banger, but she’s returned in a big way this week – now, with a huge rendition of Cher‘s ‘Believe’.
The cover comes as part of the singer’s forthcoming Pride Month special Miley Cyrus Presents Stand by You, set to air on US streaming service Peacock later this month – no word on when or if it’ll air in Australia.
Cyrus’ rendition of the song, unlike the much beloved version done by DMA’s for ‘Like A Version’, remains pretty faithful to Cher’s iconic original. However, while Cher’s doused her vocals in autotune, Cyrus opts to keep her gritty voice she’s displayed so much over the past year.
In addition, Cyrus recruited six drag queens to flank her for the performance, with each one wearing a re-imagination of some of Cher’s most notable outfits.
‘Believe’ is the second cover Cyrus has offered us this week alone, having given us her long-teased studio version of Metallica‘s classic ‘Nothing Else Matters’.
She didn’t cover the song alone, though, having recruited an all-star list of collaborators to help her. Red Hot Chilli Peppers‘ Chad Smith, Elton John, Yo-Yo Ma, WATT and even Metallica’s own Robert Trujillo all helped bring Cyrus’ rendition to life.
