Long-dormant 90s rockers New Radicals reunited to give their first performance in over two decades as part of US President Joe Biden’s virtual inauguration day celebrations.
Performing remotely from Philadelphia, the Radicals – frontman Gregg Alexander, longtime bandmate Danielle Brisebois, and a new backing band made of local Philly musicians – played the band’s 1998 hit ‘You Get What You Give’, from sole album Maybe You’ve Been Brainwashed Too. Alexander even brought back the bucket hat he regularly sported back in the day.
Several potentially lyrics were left off the new rendition – “Health insurance, rip off lying / FDA, big bankers buying”, and “Fashion shoots with Beck and Hanson / Courtney Love and Marilyn Manson / You’re all fakes, run to your mansions / Come around, we’ll kick your asses.”
It was announced earlier this week that the band were reuniting after 22 years to perform at the virtual ‘Parade Across America’ inauguration event.
“If there’s one thing on Earth that would possibly make us get the band together, if only for a day, it is the hope that our song could be even the tiniest beacon of light in such a dark time,” commented Alexander in a statement at the time.
