Did you know that Volcom are creating the official outerwear for the United States snowboarding team for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing? I didn’t either. That part is kind of whatever.
But to communicate that message, a new ad starring rap duo Run the Jewels has been released to the world, and it is wonderfully bizarre.
Scripted by comedian and musician Emily Panic, the video sees RTJ’s Killer Mike and El-P announcing their plans to join the Olympic team as a coach and athlete, to incredulity from the press. Mike refutes that while he may not know much about “sports” or “competition“, he does know about life – which is “filled with pain.”
The video goes on to feature a training montage which sees, among other things, El-P learning to snowboard by reading Ikea instructions. The ad also features appearances from I Think You Should Leave’s Tim Robinson along with Shaquille O’Neal, who appears as the “United States Commissioner of Snowboard”.
It’s very strange and good, and you can watch the whole thing below.
Still no news on RTJ4, but here’s crossing our fingers for a 2020 release. Last month, the pair featured on the Danny Brown track ‘3 Tearz’ alongside JPEGMAFIA for Brown’s album uknowhatimsayin?
