Australia’s biggest artist of 2019, Tones and I was up for Like a Version today. She took on a 2005 classic, ‘Forever Young’ from Youth Group.
She extends the song and it travels through these different sounds. It starts pretty low key, with Tones and I singing that classic, slow intro. It really shows off a different sound from Tones and I with these really clean vocals.
Tones ramps the song up into this fun, layered tune. She speeds the tempo right up and reverts back to those classic vocals Australia’s fallen in love with. There’s jazz sounds, backup singers, and she even has MC Jordan Dennis throw a few bars into the mix.
We heard Tones and I’s original ‘Never Seen The Rain’ too, featuring Jordan Dennis again.
Tones and I has had a massive breakout year in 2019. She took home four ARIA Awards with a further three nominations, and performed on the night.
