You Am I have announced a return to the Hi-Fi Daily Double format for a national tour in April 2025, some 12 years after they originally performed the shows. The fittingly titled Hi-Fi Daily Double Down tour will see the band perform two sets each night as they did on their 2013 tour: The first playing their 1996 album Hourly, Daily in full, and the second playing their 1995 album Hi-Fi Way in its entirety. The full list of tour dates, as well as ticketing information, can be found below.
The tour was pre-empted with the band announcing a show at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre adapting the format, as part of the expanded Great Southern Nights program for 2025. The shows will also coincide with the 30th anniversary of Hi-Fi Way, which is receiving a new vinyl reissue that is set for release on Friday, February 28th. “[Hi-Fi Way is] the sound of a band just doing what they do, no fuss and no fucking around,” wrote the band in a statement announcing both the tour and the vinyl.
“Fast forward to 2025 and You Am I is those same three dudes (plus one), and it’s time to celebrate. Timmy, Davey, Andy and Rusty are as pleased as punch to be bringing our twin album showcase back to a venue near you. The Hi Fi Daily Double Down is a reprise… but with new twists and turns to make it as fresh as the faces that opened for Soundgarden in 1994.”
You Am I – ‘Purple Sneakers’
Both Hi-Fi Way and Hourly, Daily topped the ARIA Charts upon release, making up a hat trick that includes 1998’s #4 Record of three consecutive number-one albums. Hi-Fi Way was later certified Gold by ARIA, while Hourly, Daily was certified platinum. At the ARIA Awards, Hi-Fi Way won the Best Alternative Release category in 1995. The following year, the band won three gongs: Producer Of The Year (themselves), Engineer Of The Year (Paul McKercher and Wayne Conolly) and Best Video (for Hourly, Daily single ‘Soldiers’).
The albums also made a dent in their respective triple j Hottest 100 countdowns. The band scored three songs in the 1995 list from Hi-Fi Way: ‘Jewels And Bullets’ at 94, ‘Cathy’s Clown’ at 84 and ‘Purple Sneakers’ at 24. In a total coincidence, the band returned to the exact same slot a year later in 1996, with Hourly, Daily‘s ‘Good Mornin’ also coming in at number 84. The aformentioned ‘Soldiers’ also appeared in the countdown, coming in at number 80.
