Axed Slayer Drummer Dave Lombardo Thank Fans For Support

Former Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo has taken to his Facebook page to thank fans for their continued support while Slayer tours Australia without him. After a contract dispute led to the split shortly before the start of Soundwave 2013, fans have been eager to gain an insight into what the future holds for both Lombardo and Slayer.

Although Lombardo offers no further information as to whether he’ll rejoin Slayer after the band return from Australia, his latest statement is bursting with gratitude for supporters who have empathised with his account of circumstances:

I have always known that my fans were awesome! But never has it been more clear to me than in the past two weeks, how passionate, supportive and sincere you really are. Thank you for all your kind responses and I hope to see you all very soon.

Sincerely,

Dave Lombardo

When speaking with Soundwave TV, Slayer frontman Tom Araya said the parting of ways with Lombardo was not something he hoped for but the band did what was necessary to salvage the Australian tour by recruiting drummer Jon Dette:

“This just happened a week ago… 10 days ago… so, I mean, I don’t know… It’s unfortunate that Dave couldn’t be with us; I planned on him being here up until the Monday before I left. And then I saw trouble in paradise, and since I am the mastermind on making decisions like this, I was, like, ‘Alright, I’ve got a backup plan. Just in case.’ ‘Cause I would have hated to have just Australia blown out. Can you imagine how shitty that would have been? So I did what I thought was best, and we pulled it off.”
