US television network NBC are reportedly in the early stages of developing a drama series based on legendary Liverpool quartet The Beatles. Despite their status as arguably the most popular band in history, there have been relatively few attempts to bring the group’s story to the screen as a drama.
According to Deadline, the network is working with writer Michael Hirst and executive producers Ben Silverman and Teri Weinberg — the same production team that created the acclaimed Showtime period drama The Tudors — on an eight-episode series as part of their ‘event’ schedule.
Details at the moment are scant and it’s important to note that the series is reportedly in development stages only. However, according to Deadline, the production team previously worked with current NBC Entertainment Chairman Bob Greenblatt during his tenure at Showtime.
The series will join other recent attempts to fictionalise the story of the Fab Four, such as the acclaimed Nowhere Boy, which starred Aaron Taylor-Johnson as a young John Lennon. Back in October 2013, Music Feeds reported on a potential biopic of legendary Beatles manager Brian Epstein titled The Fifth Beatle, which is the first Beatles feature to be granted use of their music.
