Big Day Out 2013 Lineup Finally Announced!

Finally we can reveal that The Killers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and of course The Red Hot Chili Peppers, who just announced themselves via a video, will headline the 2013 installation of the Big Day Out Festival. Joined by a seriously strong cohort of artists, this summer is set to be one to remember. Australia’s Big Day Out Festival has seen many twists and turns in its 20-year history. From its iconic Nivarna billing to the 2008 Rage Against The Machine performance, it has become an essential aspect of Australian culture, and for many an event that signifies their coming of musical age. In aid of that, Ken West and his newly restructured team have just dropped a festival lineup so juicy that it’ll replace tomorrow morning’s dose of OJ.

Update 19/07/2012: Big Day Out 2013 Public Sale Tickets On Sale Tonight

Much hype and speculation has surrounded this year’s instalment with the fake posters being more than enjoyable. With the surprise announcement that the lineup would be coming in a week, speculation went into overload with predictions flying around with suggestions of Daft Punk to Blur right back to Metallica. Although the Red Hot Chili Peppers confirmed themselves this afternoon through the wonderful world of Twitter, the lineup has definitely thrown a few curveballs. Sporting 30 new acts to the festival including Vampire Weekend, Animal Collective, B.o.B , Band of Horses, House vs Hurricane and Sleigh Bells and the likes of Childish Gambino, Alabama Shakes, Death Grips and Logo. The lineup just goes to prove that the new partnership with C3 Presents is looking like it will be a long-lasting one.

Along with the beautifully refreshing lineup, several other changes have occurred. The festival’s touring plans have changed, kicking off in Sydney on the 18th January to accommodate for the loss of the New Zealand leg (which will still see multiple sideshows from the festival). This restructured touring schedule will limit the chance of sideshows, making attendance next year even more necessary. Additionally, the ticket sales will be more staggered, with a special General Pants collectors edition pre-sale occurring today, beginning from 8AM at your local General Pants outlet (see below for participating store locations). If a special collectors edition ticket doesn’t tickle your fancy, you can fight it out online later this week in an effort to score tickets; however, chances are you’ll miss out with tickets expected to sell out quicker than David Guetta’s career (chill out he isn’t playing).

The festival will be returning to both Perth and Adelaide with its full two-main-stage arsenal, compared to last year’s Big Day Out and Skate Stage. This means that no one will miss out on the awesomeness that is currently oozing from this lineup. Over in the dark depths of The Boiler Room, Australia’s favourite dance-punk act, The Bloody Beetroots, will be premiering their brand new live show, stemming from their infamous 2011 ‘Church of Noise’ performance. The punk kings will be supported by electronic and dance acts: Pretty Lights, Nicky Romero, Crystal Castles, Morgan Page and AV whizz Sampology. The lineup is also sporting new talent such as Death Grips, Alabama Shakes, Adventure Club, Hunting Grounds and stacks more.

Alright, without further ado I present to you one of the deepest lineups the festival gods have presented to us in recent years: the Big Day Out 2013 Full Lineup!
