Just when you thought Friday couldn’t get any sweeter, everyone’s favourite rapper Childish Gambino goes ahead and drops his new free mixtape STN MTN. Gambino, real name Donald Glover, put out his latest material in the wee hours of this morning (AEST) much to the delight of anybody with ears.
Clicking play on the first track Dream/Southern Hospitality/Patrina Dem we’re instantly reminded, after a short intro, of why Gambino remains so hot in the game; delivering tight, oddball rhythms over an energetic beat.
Of course, this being Gambino, things switch up the very next track, with the previously released Sober, but you can find all this out for yourself when you stream the mixtape below.
STN MTN is one half of the STN MTN/Kauai mixtape/EP release that acts as a bridge between Gambino’s 2013 album, Because the Internet, and his upcoming third studio album. STN MTN comes via DJ Drama’s Gangsta Grillz imprint.
Talking recently on his new release Gambino explained, “It’s a Gangsta Grillz mixtape that goes into an EP… The Gangsta Grillz mixtape is sort of like — it’s a dream. And the dream ends when I wake up in Kauai. And they go into each other — it’s one complete project.”
Mixtape STN MTN is free but EP Kauai will be available for purchase, though it’s unsure when, with proceeds going towards cleanup efforts on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.
