Original Story: Sydney producer Flume has claimed first place in triple j‘s Hottest 100 of 2016 with his song ‘Never Be Like You’, defeating fellow favourite Amy Shark’s song ‘Adore’ in the push for the top spot.

Flume had a total of four songs in the countdown — ‘Never Be Like You’, ‘Say It’, ‘Smoke & Retribution’ and ‘Lose It’ — while Shark had just the one. Tash Sultana took out third place with her song ‘Jungle’.

66 of the 100 songs on this year’s countdown were by Australian artists, making it the most homegrown countdown in Hottest 100 history.

Of the Aussies, Violent Soho dominated the countdown, with five songs in the list, which means Wolfmother’s record of six tracks in a Hottest 100 still stands.

Fellow Aussies The Amity Affliction, The Avalanches, Sticky Fingers and SAFIA scored three nods each, while A.B. Original, Dope Lemon, D.D. Dumbo, Rüfüs, Illy, DMA’s, Hilltop Hoods, Tash Sultana and Dune Rats all secured two spots a piece.

The Avalanches managed to end their 15-year Hottest 100 drought this year, giving them the record for the longest gap between Hottest 100 appearances; they last appeared back in 2001.

There were also a number of Hottest 100 debuts this year, including former Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian, who appeared on Paces’ Like A Version cover of L D R U’s ‘Keeping Score’ at #56.

Beyoncé debuted with ‘Hold Up’ at #66, while Rihanna appeared on Kanye West’s ‘Famous’ and Drake’s ‘Too Good’. Justin Bieber also made his Hottest 100 debut (of sorts), thanks to Halsey’s Like A Version cover of ‘Love Yourself’, which came in at #52.

Out of the international acts, Glass Animals and Catfish And The Bottlemen landed the most nods, with both securing three spots in this year’s countdown.

Seven of this year’s top 10 song feature female artists, while 34 songs featured at least one female artist.
