Today marks the 75th anniversary of the first appearance of DC Comics supervillain the Joker in Batman #1, and to mark the occassion director David Ayer has shared an image of Thirty Seconds To Mars frontman Jared Leto, in full costume as the Dark Knight’s archnemesis.
Leto is playing Joker in Ayer’s upcoming adaptation of DC’s Suicide Squad, a series which pulls together the DC universe’s rogue’s gallery for various misadventures. Ayer has previously described his film as “Dirty Dozen with supervillains”.
Appearing alongside Leto, who got his start as an actor before moving on to a music career, will be Australia’s Margot Robbie as Joker’s flame, Harley Quinn, another Aussie, Jai Courtney, as Boomerang, Will Smith as Deadshot, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg and model Cara Delavigne as Enchantress.
Leto has said that his commitment to the film will mean a temporary hiatus for 30STM, who released their last record Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams in 2013 and last toured Australia in March last year.
I don’t know about you, but we’re getting some serious Ronnie Radke vibes from Mr Leto’s turn as the Joker. Maybe it’s just the hairline tattoo. What do you guys think?
