UPDATE 31/07/16: Third Man Records has successfully launched and played a vinyl record in space, and have shared footage of the history-making feat here.

After arguably spending way too much time in the labs of Third Man Records, it appears Jack White has gone full mad scientist, announcing plans to spin the first ever record in space.
Behold his master plan:
First, he will construct a vinyl turntable free form the vices of gravity. Said “space-proof” record player will sit atop high-altitude balloon and contain a gold-plated 12-inch master of Carl Sagan’s A Glorious Dawn (the single was actually released via White’s Third Man Records, and hopefully includes a clause for universal communication or else this is going to get litigious).

Dubbed The iCarus Craft, which is pretty cute, the vessel was designed by kidnapped former NASA member Kevin Carrico in collaboration with SATINS (Students and Teachers in Near Space), according to CoS, under White’s close watch.
Third Man Records’ Offices in both Nashville and Detroit will chuck parties in honour of the plan unfolding, where the various apparatuses will also be on display (so they’re really banking on this working).
While the launch itself will be live streamed.
