Lordi Confirmed For Soundwave 2016

UPDATE 17/12/15 5.50pm: Soundwave 2016 has been officially cancelled.

Another day, another drop in the Soundwave 2016 drip feed. This time, Finish metal monsters Lordi have been announced as the sixth act to be confirmed for the festival.

Lordi, which was formed in 1992 by the band’s lead singer, songwriter and costume maker, Mr Lordi, are best known for being the only hard rock act to ever win the Eurovision Song Contest, which they took out in 2006. The group are also renowned for their horror outfits and passion for pyrotechnics.

Maddah revealed his enthusiasm for the Finnish monsters back in May, replying with and spiritd “Yes!” when asked if they had a chance to make the 2016 bill.

Since their big Eurovision win, Lordi have released four studio albums, including their latest effort, 2014’s Scare Force One. Catch album cut Nailed By The Hammer Of Frankenstein, below.

Lordi join previously announced Soundwave 2016 acts Northlane, Swedish hardcore act Refused, Los Angeles alt-rockers Failure, Brisbane rockers Dead Letter Circus and Welsh metal outfit Bullet For My Valentine.

Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah has said another act will be confirmed for the festival later this week, with two or three to follow the week after that. Then, once early bird tickets are taken off sale, a set of 22 bands will be confirmed.

Maddah has previously said that next year’s Soundwave lineup will be heavier than usual, and the event itself will be “all about better bands and longer sets”.
