Megadeth, Volbeat, Whitechapel Sidewaves Announced

Heavy metal legends Megadeth, Volbeat and Newsted will be hitting the stage up close and personal, together for two blistering Sidewaves in Sydney and Melbourne this February.

The veteran headbangers Megadeth put out their 14th studio album Super Collider last June and it has been announced today, frontman Dave Mustaine and his cohort are bringing two of metal’s finest exponents with them for their Soundwave 2014 sideshows.

Since forming in Copenhagen in 2000, Volbeat has been distilling the rebel spirits of metal, rockabilly, country & western and rock into a gas-guzzling beast of a sound. For the first time ever they will be touring Australia as part of the massive Soundwave 2014 bill.

As an integral component of Metallica, then as part of Ozzy Osbourne’s touring band, Jason Newsted has been a legendary figure in the metal scene for over 30 years. Now, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and six-time Grammy winner is currently fronting his eponymous outfit Newsted and will bring his new act to Australia as part of the Soundwave 2014 lineup.

Another Metallica dropout, Dave Mustaine recently relived the good old days with Jason Newsted during the 2013 Gigantour. They took the stage together to cover the Metallica song Phantom Lord, which you can watch below.

Tickets to these new Sidewaves go on sale next Tuesday, 28th January at 9am AEDT.

UPDATE 5:59pm 05/02/14: According to promoter AJ Maddah, Newsted have been dropped from their upcoming shows with Megadeth and Volbeat at Megadeth’s request. According to the touring mogul, a recent dispute between the frontmen of the two bands is to blame. Full details here.
