Slayer and Megadeth tour Australia in October 2009

Talk about a mind-blowing double-header. Slayer and Megadeth – two of the bands that defined the thrash/metal genre – will perform together for the first time ever in Australia and New Zealand when they co-headline six shows in October.
Both Slayer and Megadeth have recently emerged from the recording studio with brand new albums – Slayer’s World Painted Blood, due out later this year, and Megadeth’s Endgame set for a September 11th release.
The bands will be well-warmed up for the Australian/New Zealand dates, as they co-headlined the “Canadian Carnage” trek in June, marking the first time they’ve shared a stage in more than 15 years. According to various Canadian press outlets: “It was a night of thrash impossible to trash…” “Tales about war, death, destruction, Satan, aliens and serial killers have never been so much fun…” “The two heavy metal heavyweights …went head-to-head on a level playing field. Both bands brought their A game. And the results were anything but pretty – unless you include pretty freakin’ loud and pretty freakin’ awesome.”
In related news, Lamb Of God, Devil Driver and Shadows Fall are touring in December.

went to brissy show it went off, but I reckon Megadeth were as good as Slayer easy. Slayers mix was shitty, couldn’t hear Hanneman at all, it’s like Kerry’s was on 10 and Jeff’s on 5. Couldn’t hear Jeff’s solos at all. I think Tom had the shits cos someone threw a bottle and it hit near the headstock on his bass, so they just fucking said goodnight and walked off, no encore at all….

I also went to the Melbourne concert. Megadeth were great but Slayer on the other hand were terrible. IT is the first time in my life i have walked out on a show. If it wasn’t bad enough that it was basically an instrumental show it got worse when it turned into Karaoke. I also would have preferred Megadeth play much longer…you have to do something if noone else in the band can help you out in the singing as is the case with Slayer.

Thank Fuck i’m not the only one pissed off with the Gig… Megadeth were fucking awesome – as to be expected by dave and his band, but i couldn’t believe Slayer would even attempt to come out to play without Tom singing – i left after the 3rd song and i only lasted till the 3rd song because i was in disbelief on what was happening… Slayer are a great band but that stunt they pulled has pretty much turned me off going to see them ever again! They should of refunded our money! Fucken Dodgey!

It was a completely unproffessional performance by Tom. The crowd were embarrassed to be Slayer fans that night. Really wish I didn’t buy the tour shirt before the gig now, every time someone sees me in it they’ll know I bought it at the lamest Slayer show ever.

You are all spoiled bitches…. Tom was sick for christs sake. He tried, but couldnt do it. If they cancelled people would have been more pissed. There is no pleasing some people. They still kicked ass. Its dissapointing yes, but Tom was more dissapointed than anyone there. He looked so damn depressed walking off the stage. Its only the second show Slayer have EVER cancelled. BTW – saw Megadeth in Adelaide tonight….. Awesome! Played 5 more songs than Melbourne. And fuck those who think its fashionable to trash our local talent. Double Dragon were pretty good, with their set closer an absolute gem.

The band except Kerry King walked off stage 4 times knowing it was a farce but to return with the tail between their legs. It was my first gig, bummer Slayer didnt turn up but im not a huge Slayer fan, I was there to see Megadeth.
Double Dragon were surprisingly good, im gonna have to find a few of their albums, real headbanging stuff, their closing song was awesome.
When Megadeth came on the crowd went nuts, every song was played perfectly and Dave sounded alot better than i thought he would live. Kudos to Dave and Co. on picking up the slack from Slayer.
Well worth the $87, brilliant night.

I went to the Melbourne gig and was pleasantly suprised to hear Megadeth not play any of their lame stuff from risk etc.just the good stuff – very true to the studio stuff, great guitarist being able to replicate Marty Freedmans solos too.Yeah i was dissapointed that Tom didn’t sing but he was obviously pretty unhappy about it himself, walking off stage he looked real depressed. I couldn’t hear Jeffs guitar either which sucked as i think he’s the better guitarist but it was still better than not seeing them at all…
