The Weeknd Ditches The Dreads, Announces New Album ‘Starboy’

UPDATE 22/09/16: The Weeknd has dropped the title track from Starboy; a collaboration with Daft Punk.

ORIGINAL STORY: R&B crooner The Weeknd has delivered some good news and, by proxy, bad news –the good news being that he’s prepping his next album, which will be called Starboy, and the bad news being that he’s doing so without his trademark dreadlocks.

Announcing Starboy with its cover art (below) on social media, The Weeknd (real name Abęl Makkonen Tesfaye) also sent fans the message, “I come alive in the fall time,” which suggests the album might drop at any time up until the end of December. No official release date has been announced just yet.

Starboy will be the successor to 2015’s Beauty Behind the Madness, the birthplace of zeitgeist-penetrating hits The Hills and Can’t Feel My Face. So, Starboy has some pretty big shoes to fill, but it doesn’t feel like The Weeknd has any trouble writing total jams.

On top of that, we know that he’s been working with Daft Punk on ~something~. Whether it will make its way onto Starboy or a far off Daft Punk album remains to be seen.
