Triple J Goes Girls Only For International Women’s Day

PSA: There will be no boys allowed on triple j today.

The station is bringing “girls to the front” in honour of International Women’s Day, with the music industry’s biggest boss ladies taking over all of your regularly scheduled programming.

Shining the spotlight on sisterhood – which is something that often gets trodden on in the dude-dominated music industry – the j’s will be showcasing nothing but their favourite female artists, presenters and commentators all day long.

As part of the festivities,  some of their most-played chicas will be chatting about the other incredible women who’ve inspired them, with punters tipped to hear from  Tkay Maidza, Alpine, Hopes from Tired Lion, Lizzy from MS MR, MØ, Halsey and loads more.

Lauren Mayberry from Chvrches has already given a shoutout to her favourite kickass frontwoman, and it’s someone you won’t normally hear on triple j… Hayley Williams from Paramore.

“I remember first hearing them and just thinking that her voice was absolutely insane, her vocal range is incredible. You can tell immediately it’s her when you hear her in any song,” Mayberry told the j’s.

“She’s such an energetic live performer as well and I really love that whenever you see them live, she’s just such a kick-ass band frontperson. Regardless of the fact that she’s female, she’s so powerful.”

A strike-force of female presenters will also be running content on the station all day, with Linda Marigliano on Breakfast, Zan Rowe handling Mornings, Gemma Pike at Lunch, Gen Fricker standing in for Lewis to join Veronica on Drive, and KLP in the house on Good Nights. Not to mention we’re also in for a special edition of The Racket, hosted by High Tension’s Karina Utomo.

It's International Women's Day so we're bringing #GirlsToTheFront all day from the music to presenters! Posted by triple j on Monday, March 7, 2016
The female-fuelled festivities will also kick on over at Double J and Unearthed as well. So tune in today to hear all the ladies and celebrate girl power in the music industry. NB: triple J probably won't play the Spice Girls, but we'll never stop dreaming. Watch: Chvrches - Bury It Feat. Hayley Williams https://youtu.be/2Pb8DxKh2XU
