Jimmy Barnes has thrown a spanner in the works of the hotly contested ARIA Awards category of Best Children’s Album in Sydney tonight, pipping legendary kids band and ARIA Hall Of Famers The Wiggles for the gong.
The Wiggles were nominated alongside Barnes for their record The Wiggles’ Duets, but it proved no match for Barnsey and his album Och Aye the G’Nu!, which has helped him secured his first ARIA Award since 1992.
The Wiggles, with their decades of experience and pedigree in the category (they’ve won it 13 times since 1995), still had something to celebrate, as they actually wrote the album with Barnes.
Barnesy brought out his grandson on stage to accept the award with him, inducing all of the feels in the audience.
