Yoko Ono Tweets Images Of Lennon’s Blood-Spattered Glasses

Yoko Ono has taken to her Twitter account, on what would have been the 44th anniversary of her marriage to Beatles co-frontman John Lennon, to spread the message of gun violence in the United States, using an image of the glasses Lennon was wearing on the day of his murder.

Posting the image a handful of times, each new tweet from Yoko was accompanied with a different message regarding gun violence, with the first tweet carrying this sobering statistic:

“Over 1,057,000 people have been killed by guns in the USA since John Lennon was shot and killed on 8 Dec 1980.”

The follow-up tweet notes that, “1,537 people are killed by guns in the USA every year,” before going on to describe The States as a ‘warzone’. The final 2 tweets see Yoko calling for peace and relating back to her own loss:

“The death of a loved one is a hollowing experience. After 33 years our son Sean and I still miss him.”

John Lennon was killed December 8th, 1980 when he was shot 4 times by Mark David Chapman outside his and Yoko’s home in New York. The same image is the cover art for Yoko’s 1981 album Season Of Glass.
