Splendour in the Grass 2014 has already sold out despite a series of alarming technical issues and a suspected hacking of the Moshtix website this morning that resulted in some customers being offered half price tickets and charged exorbitant credit card fees.
Social media abounded this morning with concerned and angry posts from Splendour ticket-buyers complaining about several problems with the ticketing process, including credit card charges in excess of $1000. Some even cited fees of up to $3000 or $4000.
While Splendour officials at the time announced on social media that only the “invalid” 50% discounted tickets were affected by the glitch, some punters on social media have alleged the astronomical credit fees were not limited to the reduced priced tickets.
While neither the festival or Moshtix have confirmed whether or not the site was hacked, screen shots posted on social media show that just before the excess charges started rolling in, the Splendour event details on the Moshtix site were linking to notorious drug marketplace Silk Road. Music Feeds spoke to one ticket buyer who saw the “silk road” link at around 9am this morning.
Moshtix has released a statement saying the problems were caused by an “isolated technical issue” that only affected some customers and that all the affected orders will be cancelled with those customers contacted to allow them to purchase at the correct prices. They also confirmed that no credit card information had been compromised.
The festival will take place Friday 25th to Sunday 27th July at North Byron Parklands. Splendour In The Grass organisers have confirmed the addition of three new acts to the 2014 lineup, having only just announced an Outkast-led roster last week. The three new artists are US rapper Childish Gambino, UK singer Sam Smith, and Aussie hip-hop stars Hilltop Hoods.
Splendour have also announced that sideshows will begin to be announced on Monday, although some acts including Wild Beasts and Sky Ferreira have already jumped the gun on that.

The performance will also likely be their last Down Under. The pair have made it clear that their reunion is a 40-date affair to celebrate 20 years of the band. Since their hiatus, each member has regularly quashed rumours of new albums and full-fledged reunions. -

Some of the lineup's biggest secrets are the lesser-known acts, like DMA's, who'll be playing alongside a list of industry veterans, having only announced their debut tour last month. SITG is the next step for this young Sydney trio, whom everyone's hailing as the next big thing. -

Like DMA's, Kristy Lee Peters aka KLP is another act that's had a hectic few months. The young Sydney-based singer, producer, and DJ first turned heads after winning the Triple J Unearthed Field Day comp, though by then she'd already collaborated with the likes of What So Not and PNAU.
