THE ORPHANS: Inspired by artists such as Gillian Welch and Ryan Adams,Nick Payne and Lyn Taylor have brought their unique experiences and abilities to produce the distinct sound and feel that is The Orphan’s music, an acoustic roots style of bluegrass and country with very different musical roots.
CHICKENHEAD: Chicken head’s Roy Payne is one of Sydney’s best-kept secrets. Over the years, Roy has forged a reputation as a first-rate guitarist and lap-steel player, appearing live alongside people such as Don Walker (Cold Chisel) and renowned Nashville songwriter Jim Lauderdale.
LUKE KOTERAS: Since his 2006 album FATE , Luke has taken his unique style around the World, even perfroming at The Cavern in Liverpool – His virtuosity encompasses not only acoustic contemporary style finger picking but also electric. His new Instrumental album Acoustically Yours is due out this month.
NATHALIE D NAPOLEON: Sharing her time between California and Western Autralia, she believes one woman with a guitar and a voice can make a difference. This singer-songwriter who goes solo with a genre-straddling fusion of Americana, indie-rock, and alt-country, makes her mark on the roots music scene with original lyrics, impassioned delivery and her lamenting reflection on the human condition.
KRISTY COOTE: After touring around the United States this year, she has collected a number of co-written songs from LA, Nashville and Bermuda. Her sound has been described as a “sweet ethereal vocal style which wraps around her distinct earthy pop sound” with influences from ELvis.
NICK AND LIESL: Just back from their second european tour, these two unique voices, flowing hamonies and captiving songs, are coming from two singer/songwriters with influences ranging from Nick’s love of Cat Stevens and James Taylor to Liesl’s classical songbooks and the local folk music of her childhood home Sweden. Currently playing on the ABC Local Network and Triple J.
