The Middle East Break Up At Splendour

Yesterday afternoon while performing their set in the Grant McLennan tent at Splendour In The Grass The Middle East announced they would be breaking up.

The seven-piece band, who are originally from Townsville QLD, first rose to prominence when The Recordings of the Middle East EP was released through Spunk records and their tracks Darkest Side and Blood were flogged on triple j radio.

They went on to win triple j Unearthed band of the year and place 2 songs in the hottest 100 in 2009.

After performing Jesus Came To My Birthday Party and Darkest Side, the band made the shock announcement yesterday saying “We’ve decided this is our last show ever, thanks for being here – it makes it special for us”.

The Middle East broke up in 2008 before reforming and releasing an EP and the album I Want That You Are Always Happy.
