A Petition Has Been Started To Make Sure The Offspring Hold On To Their ’98 Hottest 100 Win

In case you missed it, Double J is doing something completely unprecedented in allowing listeners to re-vote the controversial 1998 Hottest 100.

It comes at the 20th anniversary of the countdown, and also likely in response into the backlash the countdown has received in the decades following due to The Offspring‘s ‘Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)’ taking out the winning spot.

But one fan, named Miles H., isn’t having a bar of it, and has started a petition to ask the station to reconsider their decision.

“They’re trying to re-write history by holding another vote,” the statement reads. “They actually want to change public opinion two decades later! VOTE TO KEEP OFFSPRING AT #1 & SIGN THIS PETITION to let Triple J know they can’t go changing the past!”

The petition statement also notes that it’s about “preserving the glory days” when “people actually liked ‘rock music’.”

On a similar note, a Twitter account has popped up whose sole purpose is to get They Might Be Giants’ ‘Dr. Worm’ to the top spot. It landed at #13 in the original countdown.
