Newtown’s “Pre-Lockout Inspired” South King Recreation Club Officially Launches Next Week

New Sydney venue South King Recreation Club launches in Newtown next week, opening to the public on Thursday, 5th September.

With a self-described “remixed RSL vibe”, the club’s founders say it’s inspired by “memories of pre-lockout Sydney, frozen chook raffles and cheap schnittys”, and will feature a sizeable beer garden and live music.

The club’s curated, monthly-changing Happy Hour will run weekdays from 5-7pm, featuring $10 cocktails like “Bourbon Peanut Butter” and “Jelly Milkshakes” and $5 craft tinnies and tap from local breweries, along with a range of meal offerings, meat tray raffles, badge draws and everything else you’d expect.

The venue says its entertainment director Rick Hunter, responsible for the monthly South King Record Fair, has sourced “vintage vinyl and some of Newtown’s most recognised music veterans” to make guest DJ appearances at the club.

The space, at Level One, 597 King Street Newtown, will be open from 5pm-late Monday to Friday, and from midday on weekends.
