Watch Montaigne, Jack River, Polish Club And More Play By Candlelight To Mark Earth Hour

Over the weekend, Aussie musicians and comedians gathered virtually to livestream performances as part of WWF’s Earth Hour, a worldwide initiative that encourages folks to switch off their lights for one hour, and limit their electricity usage more broadly.

The concert, moved online in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, saw artists like Montaigne, Cody Simpson, Jack River, Alice Skye, Polish Club, Bobby Alu and Dulcie each play a song or two acoustically from their own homes.

Montaigne dove into the back catalogue, performing ‘I Am Not an End’ and ‘I’m a Fantastic Wreck’, both from 2014 release Life of Montaigne, while Jack River played her 2017 hit ‘Fool’s Gold’ along with ‘Dark Star’ from recently-released EP Stranger Heart.

Meanwhile, Polish Club‘s David Novak played a stripped-down version of their track ‘Divided’ before going on to cover Joe Exotic of Tiger King‘s ‘I Saw a Tiger’, with drummer John-Henry Pajak playing a Nintendo Switch all the while.

“Staying connected as a community and looking for positive ways we can contribute is more important than ever as the world responds to the coronavirus crisis,” commented WWF CEO Dermot O’Gorman about the digital event.

“The act of switching off our lights for Earth Hour has always been a show of solidarity for stronger action on climate and a chance for millions of people worldwide to collectively raise their voice for nature.”
