PREMIERE: Sydney Indie Rockers The Phazes Unveil Dark, Upbeat New Bop ‘Hollywood’

Hot on the heels of their critically thumbs-upped single ‘Manly Vale’, Sydney indie rock collective The Phazes have returned with a brand new jam dubbed ‘Hollywood’.

Premiering exclusively via Music Feeds below, the offbeat-driven, jangly guitar-laced head bopper is a colourful and upbeat sonic jaunt, but with intriguingly dark undertones. Think ‘Hotel California’ meets The Strokes.

Speaking about the meaning behind the track, lead singer Hayden Byrnes’ explains: “‘Hollywood’ is basically saying that while we are so close to being where we want to be in our careers, the fact of the matter is that we just aren’t.”

He continues: “While I generally like to leave the listener to interpret and create their own story, this theme can be seen through the lyrics; ‘woke up on a street, 10 miles away from Hollywood, I’m so close in the race but what I taste really ain’t that good’.”

In the live arena, the band has supported the likes of Bakers Eddy, WHARVES, Gold Member, PLANET and Fragile Animals. And while there’s currently no live music happening anywhere thanks to the pandemic, we’re hopeful to catch The Phazes back in action once things get back to normal.
