Record Store Day Shakes Things Up For 2020 With New COVID-Safe Plan

After already postponing the 2020 event due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the organisers of Record Store Day 2020 have now realised the event won’t be able to go ahead in its usual format any time soon, thanks largely to the need for social distancing.

Luckily, instead of canning this year’s festivities altogether, they’ve come up with a plan B.

“The new plan is to introduce a concept called RSD Drops,” the event’s head honchos announced in a statement. “These are three separate release days, each with their own list of limited edition records.”

The RSD Drop dates to pencil into your daybook include:

  • Saturday 29 August
  • Saturday 26 September
  • Saturday 24 October

“They will not be a Record Store Day like we have known it,” the statement continues. “No live music, no beer, no queuing from 4am …. none of the hanging with like-minded music fans. Sorry. And yes we are devastated at this too. Heavy hearts amongst the team here.”

Despite a staggered approach and social distancing measures enforced in-store, many the normal rules of Record Store Day will still apply, meaning no pre-orders or online shopping. You’ll still have to visit your local bricks-and-mortar indie record shop to get your fingers on any of the exclusive releases!

Speaking of which, the full list of titles will go up before each of the RSD Drop dates, so stay tuned!
