Watch Gordi’s Stunning Opera House Performance And Check The Details For Her Intimate Album Launch Shows

Fresh from performing a stunning, live-streamed concert at the Sydney Opera House to celebrate new album Our Two Skins, Gordi has announced a handful of intimate IRL album launch shows.

The musician – real name Sophie Payten – performed a full set with her four-piece band at the iconic venue over the weekend, broadcast live and featuring an array of standouts from the record.

As if that wasn’t enough, last week also saw Gordi give a powerhouse performance of ‘Wrecking Ball’ by Miley Cyrus while appearing on triple j’s Like A Version.

Now, the singer-songwriter has announced she’ll launch Our Two Skins by playing four shows this October – one in Brisbane, two in Sydney and one in Hobart. The shows will have a limited capacity and will follow all social distancing/COVID-safe guidelines. These shows will come ahead of her planned March/April 2021 dates which will see her supporting Bon Iver.

Released late last month, Our Two Skins is Gordi’s second album. Recorded amidst a new relationship and the marriage equality vote, Our Two Skins chronicles the inner conflicts, isolating discovery and excruciating epiphany the songwriter went through in order to find her true self.

“Skins is probably another word for identity and how that can change depending on if you’re at home or if you’re with some kinds of people or family or friends or colleagues,” Gordi explained in our interview with the artist last month.

“I think as well, you have big questions of identity at a few points in your life, probably as a kid, as a teenager. I found myself having those same questions in my mid-20s and was going through a lot of things in my own personal life.”

“It became really important to me to communicate what I had gone through and look at questions of sexuality and identity in a relatively public manner. I think that you need to counter those tragic lies and stories from conservative people with things that are actually happening so the younger members of the queer community can see their lives mirrored in culture.”
