Hear Previously Unheard Tom Petty Recording ‘There Goes Angela (Dream Away)’

Tom Petty‘s estate has today released a previously unheard recording of Petty’s – titled ‘There Goes Angela (Dream Away) – recorded during the sessions for his second studio album Wildflowers.

‘There Goes Angela (Dream Away)’ follows the release of another previously unheard demo of Petty’s hit ‘You Don’t Know How It Feels’ back in June.

“I thought, ‘What a weird song to pick as the single, of all those songs,'”Petty’s daughter Adria told Rolling Stone upon the release of ‘There Goes Angela (Dream Away).

“They had an album of amazing songs. But there’s something about it that makes you feel at ease – like you belong.”

Keyboardist for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Benmont Tench, told SiriusXM that he didn’t remember hearing the song.

“I think this is one where I would have said, ‘Oh, come on. Let’s cut this.’ I don’t remember even trying it,” he said.

“When it came on, I was so thrilled. But I was also mad like, ‘What? We didn’t cut this?’ When I first heard it, I was so happy that it almost made me cry because I was hearing him do something I hadn’t heard.”

There’s a catch – the song is only available to hear after answering a five-question quiz on Petty’s website, which you can do here.

In the meantime, listen to ‘You Don’t Know How It Feels’ demo below.
