A ‘Clueless’ Spinoff Series Focusing On Dionne Has Been Announced

A spinoff series based on classic 90s film Clueless is in development some two and a half decades after the original. It’s set to focus on the character of Dionne, bestie to the film’s protagonist Cher Horowitz, originally played by Stacey Dash. The project sees Will & Grace writers Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey at the helm, and will arrive on NBC’s Peacock platform.

According to Deadline, the new reboot is described as a “baby pink and bisexual blue-tinted, tiny sunglasses-wearing, oat milk latté and Adderall-fueled look at what happens when the high school queen bee Cher disappears and her lifelong No. 2 Dionne steps into Cher’s vacant Air Jordans. How does Dionne deal with the pressures of being the new most popular girl in school, while also unraveling the mystery of what happened to her best friend?”

Robert Lawrence, who produced the original Clueless film, will executive produce the spinoff alongside American Gothic and No Tomorrow creator Corinne Brinkerhoff, her development executive Tiffany Grant, and Eli Bush.

There’s no word yet on who’ll star as Dionne. Dash played the character alongside co-stars Alicia Silverstone, Brittany Murphy and Paul Rudd in the 1995 film, and reprised her role for the TV adaptation between 1996-1999.
