Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor has celebrated what would have been David Bowie’s 74th birthday by covering two of the late pop icon’s classic tunes at a special tribute concert.
Teaming up with his musician wife Mariqueen Maandig and Bowie’s long time band mate Mike Garson at the A Bowie Celebration: Just For One Day livestream event, Reznor busted out an edgy take on the Starman’s 1980 upbeat pop hit ‘Fashion’.
He also delivered a dark, stripped-back rendition of Bowie’s Lodger LP track ‘Fantastic Voyage’ featuring Garson & longtime collaborator Atticus Ross.
During his speech welcoming Reznor to the stage, Garson revealed that Bowie had been a big supporter of the metal singer, after NIN toured supporting him back in 1995.
“In the early Nineties, David said to me, ‘keep an eye on this next singer. He’s someone to be reckoned with’,” Garson reminisced.
“To have this gentleman become a very close friend and an artist that I admire is a beautiful thing.”
