Live music events in Brisbane this week will be forced to cancel or postpone, as the Greater Brisbane area is set to enter a three-day snap lockdown from 5pm today (29th March) until Wednesday (31st March), when restrictions will be reviewed.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced the lockdown at a press conference earlier today, amid an additional four cases of locally acquired COVID-19 being diagnosed overnight.
From 5pm, residents in Brisbane, Logan, Moreton Bay, Ipswich and Redlands areas will only be permitted to leave the home for grocery shopping, exercise, essential work and seeking or administering medical care. Masks will be mandatory indoors.
“This is the UK strain. It is highly infectious. We need to do this now to avoid a longer lockdown,” Palaszczuk said when announcing the lockdown earlier today.
“This is a huge job now that we have to do because we’ve got more of this community transmission. I know this will mean some disruption to people’s lives but we’ve done this before and we’ve got through it over those three days in the past and if everyone does the right thing I’m sure that we will be able to get through it again.”
Prior to now, Queensland was one of the most relaxed states with regards to live entertainment, with venues permitted to allow 100 per cent of their seated capacities.
