Parts Of Queensland Are Heading Into A Snap 3-Day Lockdown

Parts of Queensland will head into a snap 3-day lockdown from 6pm this evening, Tuesday, 29 June, as new cases of community transmission were found within the state.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has confirmed South-east Queensland, Townsville city, Magnetic Island and Palm Island will go into lockdown for three days from 6:00pm today until at least Friday 2nd July, effectively pausing any live music events in these regions for the next few days.

Areas within South-east Queensland includes the LGAs of Brisbane, Gold Coast, Noosa, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich, Logan, Redlands, Morton, the Scenic Rim, the Lockyer Valley, and Somerset. Some of these areas already had increased restrictions and mask orders imposed this morning.

The lockdown comes as an unvaccinated hospital worker tested positive to COVID-19 and was potentially infectious within the community in parts of the state for over a week.

For the next three days, people within the lockdown Queensland areas can only leave their homes to buy essential goods, to work or study if they can’t do so from home, for healthcare services or to exercise within their local areas. They also must wear masks when outside their own homes.

The news comes as Greater Sydney heads into the third day of its two-week lockdown as Covid-19 outbreaks continue to evolve across the country.
