Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine Says There’s No Chance David Ellefson Will Ever Return to Band

Megadeth bandleader Dave Mustaine recently joined the celebrity video-greeting app Cameo, and he’s shared some insight into what the future of the band looks like.

In a new clip from the platform shared by YouTube channel Rock Feed, Mustaine said there was no chance that former bassist David Ellefson would ever return to the band. Ellefson was fired from the metal outfit in May after a video was leaked of a sexually explicit online interaction between Ellefson and a young woman.

Ellefson denied initial grooming allegations and insisted the interaction was consensual, and launched a revenge porn investigation. In their statement regarding Ellefson’s departure, Megadeth cited an “already strained relationship” with the bassist.

“Any chance of Ellefson coming back later on? The answer to that is no,” Mustaine says in the clip. Mustaine also responds to rumours that former Metallica member Jason Newsted could be joining the band, speculation already shot down Newsted’s wife last month. “To answer your question about Jason Newsted joining the band, I don’t think that is going to happen,” Mustaine says in the brief clip.

While it remains unclear who Ellefson’s replacement is, earlier this month Mustaine said that all his previously recorded bass tracks on the band’s new album The Sick, the Dying… and the Dead! had been re-recorded. In another new Cameo video, Mustaine confirmed that the new bassist had been selected, briefly showing the new addition lying down behind a chair. Watch both videos below.
