Live Nation Australia has backed its US counterpart, following the announcement that – as of Monday 4th October – artists, crew members and punters at all of its events will be required to show evidence that they’ve either been fully vaccinated, or else tested negative to COVID-19.
The company made the watershed announcement this week, and now its Asia Pacific arm is set to follow suit.
In a statement provided to Music Feeds, President of Live Nation Asia Pacific Roger Field threw his support behind vaccine passports as a way to unlock the music industry.
“All over the world, showing proof of COVID vaccination or negative test is proving to be an effective way at getting fans safely back to large scale events,” he told us.
“In Australia when the timing is right, we need to work with government to explore and trial these kinds of initiatives as a way to get the show back on the road.”
The announcement comes after Lollapalooza in Chicago – a Live Nation event – ran a few weeks ago, with festivalgoers required to show proof of vaccination or a negative test for entry.
It was later confirmed that there was no evidence the festival was a “super spreader” event, and over 90% of attendees were vaccinated. Furthermore, a spokesperson told NBC News that 12% of attendees said going to the festival was their reason for getting vaccinated.
Live Nation events here in Australia include Download Festival, Splendour In The Grass, Falls Festival, plus upcoming tours from the likes of My Chemical Romance, Harry Styles and 5 Seconds Of Summer.
