Soccer Mommy Remixed By Kero Kero Bonito For Adult Swim Singles Series

Soccer Mommy’s ‘rom com 2004’ has been reworked by London band Kero Kero Bonito. It’s the latest entry in the 2021 Adult Swim Singles series.

The new version is titled ‘rom com 2021’ and sees Kero Kero Bonito expanding on the pop hooks at the core of the original. Kero Kero Bonito crank the tempo and turn the song into a hyperactive pop song speckled with fluorescent colours. It also features a new vocal arrangement from KKB’s Sarah Perry.

The original song was a collaboration between Soccer Mommy’s Sophia Allison and producer BJ Burton (Bon Iver, Empress Of, Charli XCX, James Blake). Allison apparently sent her pop-tastic ‘rom com 2004’ demo to Burton and asked that he mess it up. He acquiesced, giving rise to what the NME called a “glitchy pop gem”.

Kero Kero Bonito released their latest EP Civilisation II earlier this year, scoring a 7.5 from Pitchfork. Soccer Mommy’s Color Theory was named one of the best albums of 2020 by publications such as The GuardianPasteRolling Stone and Pitchfork.

Soccer Mommy and Kero Kero Bonito’s collab is the 23rd entry in the 2021 Adult Swim Singles series. Other artists included in this year’s collection are Iceage, Pink Siifu, CHAI, Lorraine James, Alex Frankel and plenty more.
