triple j’s Hottest 100 And Hottest 200 2024: The Complete List

triple j has broadcast its annual Hottest 100 countdown, sharing the 100 most popular songs of the year according to its listeners. The broadcast took place on Saturday (January 25th), with the supplementary Hottest 200 – listing the songs that narrowly missed out – followed yesterday (January 27th). The full lists of both countdowns can be found below.

Winning the Hottest 100 for 2024, as predicted by the Warm Tunas algorithm, was American singer-songwriter Chappell Roan with her hit single ‘Good Luck, Babe!’ By placing first, she is now one of three acts to have topped the chart with their debut Hottest 100 entry – the others being Denis Leary in 1993 (for ‘Asshole’) and The Wiggles in 2021 (for their cover of Tame Impala‘s ‘Elephant’). She is the 10th woman to top the list overall, joining the ranks of The Cranberries‘ late Dolores O’Riordan (‘Zombie’, 1994), Spiderbait‘s Janet English (‘Buy Me A Pony’, 1996), Julia Stone of Angus & Julia Stone (‘Big Jet Plane’, 2010), Gotye‘s duet partner Kimbra (‘Somebody That I Used To Know’, 2011), Flume collaborators Kai (‘Never Be Like You’, 2016) and MAY-A (‘Say Nothing’, 2022), Billie Eilish (‘Bad Guy’, 2019), The Wiggles’ Emma Watkins (‘Elephant’, 2021) and Doja Cat (‘Paint The Town Red’, 2023). This also makes Roan the third woman to do it as a solo artist.

‘Good Luck, Babe!’ received the most votes for any Hottest 100 winner in its 30-year history – breaking the record previously held by Franz Ferdinand for ‘Take Me Out’ in 2004, which received over double the votes of the number two song, Missy Higgins’ ‘Scar’. triple j reported that the number of votes for all of the top four songs this year would have been enough to win the countdown in 2023, which is an unprecedented number of votes.

Other big winners in the countdown were Charli XCX and Billie Eilish, who remarkably broke a Hottest 100 record simultaneously for most entries in a single Hottest 100 countdown. Throughout the countdown, each act placed seven songs apiece from their respective albums Brat and Hit Me Hard & Soft – equaling the record set by G Flip in 2023, who broke Wolfmother’s 18-year record of six. With their collaborative track ‘Guess’, however, both XCX and Eilish made it to eight.

Elsewhere, Royel Otis racked up seven tracks across both the Hottest 100 and Hottest 200 – the latter of which was “won” by Angie McMahon at number 101 with her song ‘Untangling’. Their highest-ranked track was number two, which was their cover of Sophie Ellis Bextor‘s ‘Murder On The Dance Floor’ recorded for the station’s flagship Like A Version segment.
