The National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMAs) have announced both the nominees and the live performers for this year’s ceremony, which is set to take place next month on Saturday, August 9th at the Darwin Amphitheatre. Three acts have come away with four nominations apiece – those being hip-hop supergroup 3%, singer-songwriter Emily Wurramara and the Andrew Gurruwiwi Band.
Performers at the ceremony will include three-time nominee Jessica Mauboy, veteran performer Troy Cassar-Daley, Sydney-based psych-rock band Velvet Trip, Emma Donovan, Barkaa and Kobie Dee. The night will also feature a special performance from Mudburra and Garrawa singer Eleanor Jawurlngali, who will perform alongside Mick Turner of the Dirty Three as the pair preview a song from a forthcoming collaborative album that Jawurlngali and Dirty Three have made together.

“My connection to Larrakia Country has been a long one,” said Cassar-Daley – whose daughter, Jem, is also a nominee this year – in a press statement. “[After] first visiting over there at 21, I fell in love with the country and its people. I can’t wait to celebrate our mob’s achievements in Garramilla. I have my guitar at the ready and songs to sing, as we celebrate 21 years of the NIMAs together.”
In her own statement, Marion Goodman-Briand – the head of Music Content Partnerships at YouTube Australia & New Zealand – expressed excitement at the video-sharing platform sponsoring the ceremony. “The NIMAs stand as a powerful platform, showcasing the extraordinary talent and rich narratives embedded within First Nations music,” she said. “Our commitment is to amplify these voices to a global audience. We extend our warmest congratulations to all the nominees who continue to push boundaries and share vital stories.” The NIMAs will be broadcast live on YouTube from 7pm ACST, while tickets to attend the ceremony in person can be purchased by clicking here.
