Fremantle roots and soul diva Mama Kin has released a new single, ‘To My Table’. It presents a sultry, saucy sound and just has an all round fun vibe. The song itself feels symptomatic of an old world jazz club you would imagine in 1960’s America. This is kind of jive you would expect to see in a grand musical, not from a solo lass from Western Australia.
Like a lot of female soloists, Mama Kin draws on relationships in her lyrics, with more of an independent punch through this single facing the inevitable question, ”What are you bringing to my table?” If this is an indication of her forthcoming work, I for one am excited to see how this spiced up reinvention will fare for her and other aspiring female musicians.
