WATCH: First Trailer For ‘Thor: The Dark World’ Hits The Web

The second film in Marvel’s Phase 2 lineup now has its first trailer. Thor: The Dark World picks up where The Avengers left off, seeing Thor (Chris Hemsworth) return to Asgard only to find that his world, along with all the Nine Realms, are under threat from an ancient race of evildoers that predate time itself.

This trailer does a great job of showing off what we can expect from the action in Thor: The Dark World (loving the Game Of Thrones-looking swords and sandles battle), as well as revealing a few new plot points. Looks like Jane Porter (Natalie Portman) will be whisked off to Asgard by our tank of a thunder god for a jelly-off with Sif (Jaime Alexander). We can also surmise that Earth will be under threat yet again – yep, that’s London getting torn up by what looks like a giant Boba Fett ship made of stalagmites – and that old Thormungous is looking for help from worse-for-wear foster bro Loki (Tom Hiddleston).

We don’t get a great look at Christopher Eccleston’s Malekith, main antagonist and leader of the dark elves, but we’re happy to wait – the less spoilery a trailer is these days, the better, we say. Check out the clip below, and have a look at the official synopsis underneath.

Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s Thor and Marvel’s The Avengers, Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.
