For Fans Of: Banks, Bon Iver, Joni Mitchell

Hometown: Perth

Genre: Pop, electronic

The 411: Bri Clark makes emotional music. The songs on her debut record, Waiting, explore themes of love, heartache, and “the corporeal grind of living with chronic illness.” Clark’s songwriting tends to be rooted in the keyboard, while electronic production accentuates the emotionality of her work.

In her short career to date, Clark has supported Middle Kids, Ainslie Wills, Holy Holy, Ben Abraham, Clare Bowditch and Airling, and headlined her own shows in Perth and Melbourne. She was the inaugural winner of APRA AMCOS’ Female Mentorship program, receiving mentorship from Mark Lizotte (Diesel) before becoming a mentor herself in 2021 for APRA’s SongGeneration program.

Review: Bri Clark’s latest single, ‘Red Flag’, was inspired by an insight into the darker side of relationships and the pernicious habits that can develop when one craves intimacy and affection. “It was a really uncomfortable song to write and probably the hardest to get right production wise,” said Clark. “The chorus speaks to the blinding red flags that I noticed once all the debris started clearing from my head.”

In a 4.5 star review of ‘Red Flag’, triple j’s Declan Byrne said, “with a voice like that, it’s impossible not to be swept up in [Clark’s] creations.”
