Prog Blog: Between The Buried And Me Interview (Part 2)

Recently I interviewed Between the Buried and Me singer Tommy Giles (see here) about the band’s upcoming tour of Australia. I had put the word out to BTBAM fans to send me some of the questions they wanted answered, but unfortunately we ran out of time on the phone for me to ask all of them.

Thankfully, Tommy found some time to email me back these answers to a few slightly silly questions.

Here they are:

Prog Blog: You’re bringing Animals as Leaders with you. How did that come about?

Tommy Giles: We have been great friends with those guys for years, way before Animals even existed. Great dudes, great band. Simple as that.

PB: The band is named after a Counting Crows lyric. Are you guys fans?

TG: Some are, some aren’t. Personally, they are very hit or miss for me. They have written some great songs for sure.

PB: How has the move from Victory to Metal Blade worked out for you?

TG: It’s been great. Our contract was up and it was time to find a new label. Metal blade seemed to be the right choice. We took our time with this decision and we are very pleased so far.

PB: When you guys created the guitar outro for Mordecai, did you know you had created the greatest thing ever in the history of mankind?

TG: I still didn’t know that. I think you’re thinking of Weird Al Yankovic.

PB: Any Australian bands that pique your interest?

TG: In Trenches are great friends of ours. Great band. I’m a big Silverchair fan (newer material preferred).

PB: Have you considered releasing a whole album of ‘breathe in breathe out’?

TG: Could get kind of boring, but everything is a possibility.

PB: Was touring with Devin Townsend the greatest thing ever or what?

TG: Yes it was!! Greatest dudes ever, and fuck, they are perfect every single night. He personally is such an inspiring person and musician.

PB: What the heck was Blake thinking when he wrote the drum parts for Mirrors and why is it so awesome?

TG: He’s the shit. Dude can write some badass shit to do a part. Wouldn’t want to play with any other drummer.

PB: Can serious beak tour with you? http://seriousbeak.bandcamp.com/

TG: I don’t have internet right now, but sure.

PB: Can pirate tour with you? http://birdsrobe.bandcamp.com/album/left-of-mind

TG: I don’t have internet right now, but sure.

PB: When’s your next solo record due?

TG: Hopefully next year. I’ve been working on some things. Who knows. I’ll only release something if I’m feeling positive about what I’m writing.
