Right before New Found Glory were announced as part of this year’s Vans Warped Tour Australia lineup, we got to chat to guitarist Chad Gilbert about the band’s return Down Under as well as their upcoming live album Kill It Live.
Gilbert recalls his experiences on the last Vans Warped Tour in 2002, traversing the country by coach with a bunch of his favourite bands. He says his overwhelming experience of Warped is a sense of family, where a more refined lineup and smaller stages means a more intimate environment for both punters and bands.
Speaking on Kill It Live, Gilbert says the band didn’t want to just “fart out an album”, so they curated the best songs they could from two special gigs, rearranging familiar tracks for brand-new takes on fan favourites, which he thinks may even outshine their previously recorded versions. He also recounts the electrification incident he suffered onstage at the first of the shows, and then backing the shock up with a killer performance the very next night.
