PREMIERE: Listen to Joe Mungovan’s Debut Studio Album ‘A Flower In The Weeds’

To record his debut studio album, A Flower in the Weeds, South Coast singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Joe Mungovan withdrew to a studio space in the picturesque Kangaroo Valley, producing the record himself.

“I moved out to the bush and turned a small house into my studio. I would go weeks without seeing any other humans,” Mungovan explains of his time creating the album, which we’re premiering here at Music Feeds before it officially arrives after a string of singles this Wednesday, 10th November.

“It provided me with the time and space to reflect on the past years of touring and life. My mate Tim Carr helped me put the final touches on the song and we mixed the album in his bedroom closet.”

The result is a collection of songs that elevate the earnest, introspective songwriting that threads Mungovan’s earlier work, with tons of warmth and infectious indie-pop sensibilities throughout. Hazy, blissed out guitar chords and Mungovan’s distinctive croon anchor the songs throughout, with a lush palette of textural flourishes underneath.

From the swaying, sunkissed ‘Lemon + Lime’ to the sparse and emotive, slow-burning album closers ‘w/u’ and ‘What Should I Do with All This Love?’, Mungovan takes listeners through a diverse sonic journey on the album, driven by the kind of rich storytelling that leaves an impression well after the album’s runtime.
